MUD-BRICK COTTAGE CHARM | OUTBACK EXPERIENCE | STARRY NIGHTS
“Highly recommend this gorgeous little cottage for a weekend escape! We stumbled across this gem as we were looking for a place close to Yass for a weekend work trip for my partner – it turned a work trip into the most delightful, relaxing weekend away. We loved the outdoor BBQ and sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, taking in the beautiful green scenery. The place was immaculate throughout and had everything we needed.
Bec was a wonderful host – super helpful and responsive (even reaching out to her vet friends for us when our little puppy Nala encountered an unexpected eye infection). Thank you Bec for such a lovely stay – we’ve already recommended to our friends and can’t wait to come back soon. This place is a little slice of heaven! ’’

Stoneleigh House Bango near Yass: A Charming Renovated Mud-Brick Cottage
You won’t get more authentic than this getaway that oozes rustic charm, yet it’s polished and comfortable. Mud-brick has an uncanny knack of adding texture, character and authenticity, and then there’s the environmental upside.
Natural Environmental Benefits of Mud-brick Construction: Lessons from Mother Earth
The use of sustainable and locally sourced materials made from natural earth, clay, straw, and water, mud bricks require minimal industrial processing. Usually sourced on-site or locally, they help reduce the carbon footprint associated with transport and manufacturing. This also means less reliance on imported or energy-intensive building materials such as concrete, steel, or fired bricks. Mud bricks also have high thermal mass, meaning they absorb heat during the day and slowly release it at night and therefore naturally regulates indoor temperatures — keeping homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter and reduces the need for artificial heating or cooling.
In Australia’s variable climate, this passive temperature control significantly cuts energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
