Media Release: Ireland Life on Norfolk Island Australia. This is the story of Alex McGillycuddy relocating from Ireland to Norfolk Island.

No traffic. No long queues. No rushing about. Where Alex McGillycuddy is from in Ireland, it’s super remote. He wistfully reflects saying “We all wave to each other in passing cars. The green fields. The cows. The fresh air. The Dark Sky Zone. Norfolk Island and Glencar in County Kerry are very similar”.

But something’s missing…

In the heart of Norfolk Island, Australia, where rolling green hills meet indigo waters lies an exquisite refuge designed for the modern traveller seeking something special: Glencar Luxury Villas. Inspired by the need for bespoke 5-star accommodation, owners Alex and his wife Sarah, a Norfolk Islander, have created a haven where guests become part of the Glencar family.

Relocating to Norfolk Island meant the McGillycuddy’s embracing a slower pace amidst a community reminiscent of Ireland. Irresistibly Alex ponders “Norfolk Island life isn’t just about proximity to nature’s wonders; it’s a lifestyle where relaxation meets adventure, and the warmth of a community mirrors the hospitality found at Glencar”.

Perched on elevated terrain overlooking Mount Pitt, each of the two villas offer breathtaking views without sacrificing privacy – a design choice meticulously crafted by Alex and Sarah. The layout, conceived as a seamless blend of open space and intimate corners, allows guests to enjoy panoramic vistas from multiple decks or retreat into serene interiors adorned with high-end furnishings.

From the outset, the project faced challenges typical o its idyllic, yet remote location. A 2.5-hour flight from Brisbane, Sydney or Auckland, New Zealand, and accessible otherwise only by sea, spiralling construction costs and logistical hurdles in sourcing materials added complexity. The result – villas that seamlessly integrate into Norfolk’s landscape.

Stepping inside, guests are greeted by contemporary interiors infused with local art, a nod to both luxury and the island’s rich cultural tapestry. Every detail, from plush mattresses to bespoke furniture curated for its WOW factor, that reflects Sarah and Alex’s commitment to creating a place of unmatched luxury and inviting interiors on Norfolk Island. The cherry on top is each villa has its own heated magnesium swimming pool. So easy for the visiting Travellarks guests to fall in love.

Beyond the villas, Norfolk Island beckons with its unique charms: pristine beaches like Emily & Anson Bays, where snorkelling in crystal-clear waters reveals vibrant marine life; trails winding through lush forests just minutes away; and the promise of farm-to-table delights at the Homestead Restaurant, the McGillycuddy’s favourite restaurant.

A final word from Alex realising what’s missing, and his ‘ahha’ moment comes…”the biggest difference between Ireland and Norfolk Island is the year-round sunshine”.
