Gulgong’s Country History and Spirit
After all, what really makes Gulgong special is its people because they are welcoming, down-to-earth locals who take pride in their town’s history and love sharing it with visitors. In fact, Gulgong is also home to Henry Lawson the Australian writer and bush poet, whose portrait is on the Australian 10 dollar note. He spent his formative years in Gulgong and his works reflect life from the outback gold-mining town in the 19th century. In addition, if you look closely at the 10 dollar banknote, you’ll spot the Times Bakery and Gulgong Dispensary, that still operate today.
Food, Wine, and Country Hospitality in Gulgong
Additionally Gulgong offers a cosy selection of pubs, cafés, bakeries, and restaurants where you’ll find hearty meals and warm country hospitality, as well as ocal markets and boutique shops which add to the small-town charm.
