HUON VALLEY ROMANTIC GETAWAY | BEYOND THE ORDINARY STAY | SHIO DINING

“Where to start, wow what a hidden treasure is Cambridge House Geeveston, Tasmania! It’s a beautiful place to stay – amazing house with gorgeous rooms. Big rooms with amazing decor and furniture. Love that the rooms have ensuites. The B & B accommodation is owned by the loveliest family – Thana and Kaz you will ever meet. The second you walk into the house you have the warmest most genuine welcome. Highly recommend you have dinner in the lovely dining room that has an open fire crackling away. Don’t worry if you have children they have fire guards. The food is outstanding cooked by Chef Kaz and yes he is a Chef. Highly recommend you try The Degustation Japanese meal. Fantastic quality, mouth-watering food. He does offer Australian food if you prefer. Have to admit we loved the Japanese meal so didn’t try the Australian but 100% it will be so good. You will be really happy with the delicious breakfast in the morning after a really comfortable night’s sleep. Then you can walk in the garden and go down to the stream and watch the Platypuses swim. We walked away with a really warm happy feeling after staying at this gem of a place. It is a must to return again and again.”

THE EXPERIENCE:

A Culinary Sanctuary in Tasmania’s Far South

Cambridge House Geeveston is a fusion of classic architecture and Japanese bespoke hospitality. The focus is on calm. The minute you arrive, you’ll embark on a timeless journey within a minimalist haven of five distinctive, private rooms (with their own ensuite) and the onsite Shio Restaurant. This is especially ideal for those who wish to dine and embody all things offered.

Less than an hour from Hobart, Cambridge House Geeveston is tucked away in the lush heart of southern Tasmania, and is more than a destination—it’s a pilgrimage for those who appreciate the art of fine food. Here, the essence of Japan meets the bounty of Tasmania, brought to life through Chef Kazumasa Yazawa’s Dining Experience, hosted in the chef’s home. You’ll be welcomed with a drink on arrival.

Chef Kazumasa Yazawa, Award Winning Chef

The culinary program at Cambridge House is led by Japanese Chef Kazumasa Yazawa, whose career spans over 20 years in Michelin-starred and Hats restaurants across Japan, Singapore, Australia, Jakarta, and beyond. Having trained under renowned chefs Tetsuya Wakuda and Yoshihiro Narisawa, Chef Kazumasa brings a wealth of experience and a thoughtful approach, crafting a dining experience that is uniquely his own.

Chef Kazumasa personally curates your dinner menu, assembling an exquisite array of flavours in perfect harmony. The freshest Tasmanian ingredients are transformed through Japanese precision, creating a sensory experience that lingers long after the final bite. This is more than dining—it is an intimate encounter with nature, culture, and craftsmanship.

For the true bon viveur, an adventure into Tasmania’s Far South is not complete without this extraordinary gastronomic experience.
