The Clare Valley in South Australia, is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions with plenty of things to do. Most of us already know of its exceptional Riesling, plus a range of reds and other varietals.

Here’ you can soak up wine tastings, tour vineyards and taste test at cellar doors with accompanying gourmet savouries. There are over 40 wineries and 50 cellar doors tucked into this peaceful part of the world. And that’s a lot of grapes to get through… better start hydrating now.

But there’s so much more to this beautiful region. With lush vineyards, rolling hills, and historic country towns, it’s a very chilled experience that doesn’t require you to be a wine lover (though many come here for exactly that!).

Beyond the cellar doors, you’ll find scenic bike trails, local markets, and towns full of heritage buildings, galleries and artisan shops. Whether you’re into wine or just need a relaxing getaway, Clare Valley’s charm is a little hynotic.

Easy GPS Directions from Adelaide:

Take Main North Road from Adelaide to Gawler. Turn off to the Clare Valley along the Horrocks Highway to Roseworthy, Tarlee, Rhynie, Auburn and finally Watervale.
